Chapter 19: The Melody of the Forgotten

Despite their continued progress, the space around them grew increasingly boundless. And while the sense of uncertainty still lingered, with each step they took, it felt as though they were becoming part of a great harmony that was slowly unfolding within their souls. It was like a melody they had never heard before, yet one that resonated deeply in every cell of their bodies.

Lumis felt the tension within him shift, turning into something profound. It was not just inner calm, but the echo of something ancient, forgotten, yet so close that he could almost touch it. He had a sense that they weren’t just moving through space, but through time—erasing the boundaries between the past and the future.

Eili walked beside him, her gaze lost in the surrounding darkness. Her hands trembled, though she tried to keep herself steady. She could feel the world around them growing less and less real, yet somehow more genuine. Something in this place was unveiling the depth of her own soul, and she knew that there was no turning back now.

“This isn’t what I imagined when I first started this journey,” she said quietly, her voice tinged with a crack but not regret. “I thought we’d find an easy answer.”

Lumis looked at her, his gaze calm, yet there was a depth to it that perhaps he could not fully explain.

“We’re not looking for an easy answer,” he replied. “We’re searching for the truth. And that doesn’t always mean what we want to hear.”

They moved through the black tunnel, which seemed endless, but as they advanced, lights began to appear—myriads of points falling like stars, converging into a pattern. Each of these lights was like a memory, something that remained behind them, yet within it lay something new, something unknown.

“Are these lights… memories?” Eili asked, gazing at their glow.

“Yes,” Lumis answered. “Memories… and the future.”

Suddenly, before them appeared a massive arch, crowned with ancient symbols that glowed with a soft light. It was a place that seemed as if it had been conjured from a fairytale, but there was an undercurrent of unease within it, as if it were a test of their readiness.

“We’ve come to this moment,” Lumis said, his voice even more resolute. “And now we must take the final step.”

Eili looked at him, her heart racing, but this time it wasn’t fear. It was readiness, even though she was scared.

They approached the arch, and its light enveloped them.
