Part 5 Chapter 1: Shadows of the Past

The world around them was no longer as it once had been. The Eternity they had created now looked different—too chaotic and unpredictable, filled with new forms that refused to adhere to the rules they had once tried to establish.

Melania stood on the edge of what had once been a clear horizon. The sky, which should have been stable, now resembled a cradle of scattered memories. The wind carried not just air, but emotions—anger, sadness, despair. Eternity had yet to find its stability, and every element of this reality seemed to lash out at the heroes, like living entities that refused to recognize their authority.

“We created this world, but now it doesn’t listen to us,” Melania thought, feeling her hands tremble. She was used to battles, to strategy, to plans. But now, none of that worked. And they weren’t ready for the fact that the changes they had brought might come with such a cost.

Endar stood beside her, his gaze grim and focused. Over the past few years, he had become less inclined to naivety. The Eternity they had built wasn’t just a new beginning. It was pain. Pain they carried because every element of this reality resonated with the consequences of their choices.

“This isn’t how we thought it would be,” he said, glancing across the horizon where dark clouds began to gather, tearing apart the light. “We gave it life, but can we now give it freedom?”

“And are we ready to face the consequences of that choice?” Melania quietly asked, her voice echoing in the emptiness.

Kairen, who stood beside them, disagreed with their skepticism. His voice was sharp, like the edge of a sword.

“We can’t back down now,” he declared. “We didn’t just create a new Eternity. We are its creators, and it is our responsibility. Nothing can make us return to the old ways.”

Yet, in his words, there was an undertone of anxiety. The heroes had been through a lot, but now each of them was forced to constantly face the same questions. How could they be so sure that the world they had created was truly worth their choice?

Suddenly, a dark cloud ripped open, and before them appeared a distorted figure, like a shadow from the past. It wasn’t Astran, not his physical form, but his image—a remnant of the old order that refused to accept the new world. They didn’t know who or what was before them.

“You’re trying to create something new,” the voice was low and muffled, like a whisper on the wind. “But is your creation merely emptiness trying to fill itself?”

Melania felt her heart tighten at the sound of this voice. They had thought they had overcome all the dark sides of the old Eternity, but this voice made them doubt whether they had truly changed anything forever.

“Eternity cannot exist in chaos,” Melania spoke, holding her gaze on the figure. “We created order, we gave it structure.”

“Order?” the voice coldly laughed. “Your Eternity is not order, it’s a step towards chaos. You’ve fallen for the illusion that you can control what you’ve created. But your fears, your doubts, all of this will echo in this world. Are you ready for it?”

Without warning, a dark rift opened in the sky before them, and from it began to emerge images—scenes from the past, scenes where each of the heroes made a choice that could never be undone.

Endar closed his eyes, but the images didn’t release him. These were his worst mistakes—moments of betrayal and abandonment of those he had once considered important. Every step he had taken in the past seemed so wrong, and now, in the new Eternity, it felt like a burden.

Kairen clenched his fists, but his eyes were full of doubt. He felt no control. He had been sure of his actions, but now the very foundations of this world were becoming a challenge.

Melania raised her head and looked at the dark figure.

“We cannot avoid this,” she said firmly. “And we cannot turn back from our choice. Eternity cannot emerge from chaos without us. We must move forward.”

These words became her promise. They couldn’t retreat. They had to give this world a chance, even if it seemed unknown and dangerous.

But would they be ready for the fact that the world they had created could slip beyond their control? Would they be able to withstand the trials of Eternity, which was just beginning to reveal its true face?
