Chapter 15: The Core of the Lost World

The Phantom City

As Emiren and his companions moved forward, the city around them trembled, as if sensing their presence. Towers of crystal rose into the sky, shimmering with light that constantly shifted in color—from cold silver to deep sapphire. The air was thick, almost tangible, saturated with echoes of past events that had never actually occurred.

“This place is unstable,” Flamen said quietly. “Do you feel how the space keeps shifting?”

“It’s not just space,” Empty replied, studying the distorted outlines of buildings. “It’s time itself.”

Watery knelt, touching the smooth surface of the ground. Watery trickled from his fingers, but instead of spreading, it solidified into thin silver threads.

“Time is compressed here,” he said. “It’s as if all possible events exist simultaneously, but none have actually become reality.”

Emiren felt his own memories beginning to blur. This city, though it had never existed in his world, felt strangely familiar. He recalled dreams in which he had seen streets like these—dreams that always faded upon waking.

“We need to find the core of this world,” he said.

“If it even has one,” the Shadow who had led them here replied. “Not all lost worlds have a core. Some vanish completely, leaving no trace.”

Emiren did not answer. His instincts told him that this world was not entirely gone. It lingered on the edge between being and nonexistence, waiting for a decision.

The Path to the Heart of the City

They moved deeper into the city, navigating narrow streets that twisted in impossible directions. At times, it seemed they were walking in circles, yet each turn revealed something new: plazas filled with statues of unknown beings, staircases leading both up and down at once, bridges that disappeared beneath their feet.

“This place is alive,” Flamen murmured.

“Or it’s falling apart,” Empty countered.

Suddenly, Emiren stopped. Before them stretched a vast square, and at its center stood an unfinished tower. Its peak vanished into mist, while invisible energy pulsed around it.

“There,” he said. “That’s the core.”

“How do you know?” Watery asked.

“I can feel it.”

The Shadow regarded the tower in silence.

“If this truly is the core, it can either preserve this world or destroy it completely.”

“We have no choice,” Emiren said, stepping onto the square.

The Core of Lost Time

As they approached, the tower shuddered, as if awakening to their presence. The stairs leading inside began to shift, dissolving and reforming from pure light.

“This is a test,” Flamen said.

“Or a warning,” Empty added.

Emiren was the first to step onto the stairs. The moment his foot touched the surface, a vision flashed through his mind:

…This city once existed. Those who lived here tried to create their own Eternity, independent of the Garden. But their choices were wrong. Time spiraled out of control, and the city began to vanish. They tried to save it, but it was too late…

Emiren staggered.

“You saw something?” Watery asked.

“This city… It was real,” he said. “But it became a trap for those who sought to change fate.”

The Shadow took a step forward.

“Then the choice is still yours to make.”

They ascended.

The Final Decision

At the tower’s summit, they found the Core—a sphere of pure energy, pulsing rhythmically like a heart. It flickered between light and darkness, as if Eternity itself hesitated.

“What do we do?” Empty asked.

“We can either give this world a second chance… or end its existence,” the Shadow said.

“But if we leave it as it is, what will happen?” Watery touched the Core, and it shuddered.

“It will continue to exist, but without control. It will grow, affecting other realities, either destroying or changing them.”

Emiren remained silent.

“We have no right to decide who should exist and who shouldn’t,” Flamen said.

“But we can’t just leave it like this either,” Watery added.

Emiren took the final step forward.

“Then we must create balance. Not destroy it, not abandon it, but restore it.”

He reached for the Core.

Light erupted, and the city trembled.

They had made their choice.
