The mist slowly dissipated, revealing the stone portal that stood tall among the dark trees. The symbols on its surface emitted a soft light, reminiscent of the flicker of a distant star. Melania and Endar approached cautiously, peering into it.

“It seems we’ve returned to this place,” said Melania, looking at the portal. She felt a strange sense of déjà vu, as though an invisible thread had led them here before.
“The Guardian said the boundaries wouldn’t open for us just like that,” Endar replied. He scanned the area with a tense look, as if waiting for something.
“He will come,” Melania said, as if certain of it.
Her words had barely left her lips when the stone light grew more intense. From the emptiness between the portals, a tall figure appeared. The Guardian of the Boundaries stood before them, exactly as they had seen him before: a cloak merging with the mist, and a hood that concealed his face. But this time, his presence seemed even more tangible, as though the forest itself had breathed life into his form.
“You have returned,” the Guardian said, his voice echoing through the trees, filling the space. “You seek the threshold, but are you ready to take the next step?”
“We are ready,” Melania replied firmly. Her voice sounded confident, but inside she felt anxious.
“Remember, every choice leaves a mark,” the Guardian said, turning toward the portal. His hand, stretched out, touched the stone. The symbols flared brighter, inviting the heroes.
“What awaits us beyond?” Endar asked, gripping the hilt of his sword.
“The echoes of the past,” the Guardian answered. “And those who have never left these boundaries.”
For a moment, Melania felt doubt, but she quickly overcame it. She nodded to Endar, and together they stepped into the portal.
The Guardian did not move, watching them until they disappeared into the glowing symbols. His final words lingered like an echo: “Answers are always hidden behind sacrifice.”
Beyond the threshold, the heroes found themselves in a world resembling a kaleidoscope of images. Voices and shadows from past eras surrounded them, as if testing their resolve. The mist enveloped the space again, but this time it was filled not just with mysteries, but also with trials.
Now, they had to do more than find answers; they had to determine what they were willing to give up to save the future of Eternity.
Melania and Endar stepped through the portal, and darkness enveloped them. At first, it seemed as though the space was simply swallowing them, but with each step, the invisible world began to take on more distinct shapes. The air grew heavy, and strange sounds began to rise around them—indistinct whispers that seemed like voices from the depths of time, faceless but felt in every movement.
They moved forward, feeling the ground beneath their feet change. Their steps echoed, and the reverberations seemed endless, as though every sound awakened new forces in the darkness.
Melania looked at Endar. Her heart raced, and though they were already on their way, doubts still lingered.
“What is this place?” she whispered, feeling each movement provoke new whispers that unintentionally pierced her consciousness.
“I don’t know,” Endar replied. “But we must continue. If we stop now, we don’t know if we can return.”
There was no answer, only shadows growing more defined. Suddenly, before them, a vast hall appeared, filled with stone columns rising into the boundless darkness. All of these columns were covered in ancient engravings that shimmered with light, as though they were not just drawings but something alive, something that could move and change with each of their gazes.
“We’re not alone here,” Melania said, approaching one of the columns.
Endar came closer and looked at the engraving. It was a scene from a battle, where figures were depicted fighting for control over the endless streams of time. The feeling that these images were not just ancient but alive—and that they had seen everything happening to them now—was unbearable.
“This is something more than just a memory,” he said, looking at one of the drawings where two figures were entwined with dark energies, pulling each other toward the abyss.
The sounds grew louder, and now Melania couldn’t tell if it was just in her head or if they were truly hearing footsteps. Everything around them seemed to change, as if this world itself was reacting to their presence.
And then, from the darkness, the Guardian of the Boundaries appeared again. His form was unchanged, as before—dark hood, face hidden in shadow, and hands calmly folded in front of him.
“You have entered a world where every choice may change the future,” he said, his voice calm but with a chill to it.
Melania and Endar stopped. They weren’t surprised, as they had expected his appearance, but this time the atmosphere around them was different. This space was not like the place where they first met him. Here, everything breathed, responding to their presence, and they felt how each step they took shifted the situation.
“We are ready,” Melania said, looking into the darkness ahead of them. “We have the answers, and we are ready for the consequences.”
The Guardian nodded. His movements were smooth and rhythmic, as though this world obeyed his will.
“If you seek answers, you will have to accept what is revealed,” he said, stepping back and gesturing toward the dark abyss before them. “This is not just a journey. It is a trial of your decisions.”
Endar scanned the surrounding space. The feeling that they were standing on the brink of something vast and unknown did not leave him.
“What will we find beyond this veil?” he asked, not paying attention to the fact that his words echoed in the silence.
“What remains of Eternity,” the Guardian answered, and for a moment, his figure became less defined, as though dissolving into the mist. “And what you must create.”
With each step, they approached the veil, and now Melania felt that this was not just a trial. It was something greater. It was the defining moment of who they were to become.
They stepped beyond the threshold, and the darkness consumed them.
