The wind carried the scent of metal and ozone as Lumis and Eili stood at the edge of the cliff. The world before them resembled a gigantic clockwork mechanism: sectors spinning in synchrony, and shadows gliding between them like invisible phantoms.
— What is this place? — Lumis felt a chill run down his spine.
— This is the heart of the system, — Eili replied, intently gazing at the central tower. Her voice was low but filled with determination. — What we see is the foundation of the illusion.
Lumis leaned in, observing the chaotic movements of the mechanisms. The clock hands on the surface of the sectors moved back and forth, creating surreal patterns. Time here was not linear—it fractured, shifted, and bent.
— This isn’t just a world. It’s a prison, — he suddenly realized.
Eili nodded.
— But now we know how it works. And we know where to go.
She pointed at the central tower. Its black spire pierced the sky, casting a long shadow over everything around.
— The central tower? — Lumis took a deep breath, trying to quell his fear. — But how will we get there?
— We are not alone here, — she replied, nodding towards one of the approaching shadows.

The shadow was not a distinct figure but rather a mass of light and mist that shifted form with each step. As it drew nearer, it became clear that this was not an enemy. The shadow seemed to be searching for them, swirling around before coming to a halt and beginning to take shape.
Before them stood a figure in a cloak, with a mask resembling a clock face glowing with light. The hands on the mask moved slowly, measuring an invisible time.
— You have dared to see the truth, — the stranger intoned, his voice echoing as if from the depths of the very mechanism.
— But are you ready to pay the price for it?
— We have already made our choice, — Eili replied firmly.
The shadow tilted its head, as if in contemplation, and then extended a hand from which a small key appeared. It shone with a golden hue, and its shape resembled a complex mechanism made of numerous gears.
— This key will lead you to the central tower. But remember: what you find there could destroy you.
— Who are you? — Lumis asked.
— I am but a fragment of who you might become. You chose the past, and now you must find your way within it.
With those words, the shadow dissolved, leaving the key in Eili’s hands.
— He knew we would make this choice, — she said, looking at the key.
— Then perhaps it’s a trap, — Lumis cautioned.
— Or our chance to break free, — Eili countered.
Without wasting any time, they set off down towards the world of sectors and shadows, leaving behind the calm of the cliff. The central tower awaited them, concealing answers to questions they had yet to ask.
As they descended, Lumis felt a mix of trepidation and resolve. The journey ahead was shrouded in uncertainty, but united by their choices and their bond, they were determined to confront whatever truths lay within the tower’s depths. Each step brought them closer to understanding the very fabric of their reality—and perhaps, to uncovering the secrets that had enslaved their world for far too long.
