Chapter 15: The Bell of the Root

The soft light of a new morning filtered through the dense canopy of the Garden of Time, filling the space with a gentle glow. The air was calm but saturated with an invisible energy. Emiren and Aliana walked along a narrow path leading them into the unknown. Their minds were still processing the recent revelations: the mysteries of time and its true nature, which remained elusive.

“We’ve learned so much,” Emiren began, gazing into the distance, “but I feel like the most important answers are still hidden.”

“Time isn’t just a concept; it’s something deeper,” Aliana agreed. “We’ve only scratched the surface.”

Their conversation was interrupted by a faint but distinct sound of a bell. It echoed from somewhere far away but was so pure it seemed to be part of the very fabric of the space around them. They both stopped, exchanging surprised glances.

“What is that?” Emiren asked.

“It’s a bell,” Aliana answered, her voice tense as if she already suspected something. “The Bell of the Root.”

“The Root?”

“Yes. Legends say that at the very heart of the Garden of Time lies the Root of Time—a point from which everything originates. The bell is heard only by those who are allowed to approach it.”

“And why would we hear it?”

Aliana shook her head.

“We have to find out.”

The Path to the Root

The bell rang more frequently as they walked, each echo causing a faint vibration in the ground beneath their feet. The path became increasingly winding and steep. Around them appeared trees unlike any they had seen before: their trunks looked as though carved from black glass, and their leaves glowed like stars.

“This isn’t just another part of the Garden,” Aliana whispered, touching one of the trees. “This is a place beyond time.”

“Beyond time?” Emiren repeated, looking at her.

“Yes, here time doesn’t move as it does in ordinary worlds. Here its essence is laid bare, and every moment lasts an eternity.”

Suddenly, the air around them crackled, and the path ahead split into several directions. Each path was surrounded by a different glow: one led to golden light, another to deep blue, a third to crimson, and another to silver.

“This is a trial,” Emiren realized. “We have to choose.”

“But what are these paths?” Aliana stepped closer, examining each glow.

Words appeared before each path, etched into the air:

Golden Light: “The Past. Uncover its secrets.”

Deep Blue Light: “The Future. Witness the unknown.”

Crimson Light: “The Present. Understand its weight.”

Silver Light: “The Essence. Touch the truth.”

“We can’t take all the paths,” Emiren said.

“But each of them leads to something important,” Aliana added. “We need to decide which one will show us the truth of the Root.”

The Silver Choice

After much deliberation, they chose the silver light. As soon as they stepped forward, the world around them changed. They found themselves in a space with no ground or sky, only an infinite silver expanse pulsing like a living organism.

“Is this… time?” Aliana whispered.

“No,” a voice answered, echoing from everywhere. “This is the Root.”

Before them, a figure began to take shape, formed entirely of silver light. It had a human-like form, but its face was indistinct, and its voice was both deep and melodic.

“Have you come to seek the truth?” the figure asked.

“Yes,” Emiren replied, stepping forward. “What is the Root of Time?”

The figure extended a hand, and before them appeared the image of a tree. Its roots were golden, its branches glowed with all the colors of the rainbow, and its leaves shimmered like stars.

“This tree is the foundation of all realities,” the figure explained. “Time is not a line but a tree, each branch a new possibility, a new world.”

“And the Root?” Aliana asked.

“The Root is the place where all realities converge. It is the source of time, and those who understand it can change any branch. But remember: the power of the Root comes with responsibility.”

The Price of Knowledge

The figure moved closer to them, and the space around began to tremble.

“Are you ready to accept the knowledge of the Root? But know this: it will change you forever.”

Emiren and Aliana exchanged a glance.

“We are ready,” they said together.

The figure touched their foreheads, and silver light filled their minds. They saw everything: the beginning of time, its infinite branches, billions of possibilities and consequences. The knowledge was both awe-inspiring and terrifying.

When they returned to reality, both looked transformed. Their eyes now glowed with a silver light, and in their hearts, a new understanding had taken root.

“We’ve seen the truth,” Emiren said.

“But now we must decide what to do with it,” Aliana added.

And the Bell of the Root fell silent, leaving them on the path leading to their next trial.
