Chapter 17: Beyond Time

The heavy gates of the central tower slowly opened, revealing darkness that swallowed any light. Lumis and Eili stepped inside, and instantly the space around them transformed.

Instead of familiar walls, they found themselves in a vast sphere where time seemed to hang still in the air. Gears and pendulums floated in emptiness, their movements almost imperceptible. In the center of this expanse stood a colossal clock with frozen hands, seemingly holding the very secret of reality itself.

— This is… the heart of the system, — Eili whispered, her voice echoing faintly.
Lumis nodded, staring intently at the gigantic face of the clock.

— But why has it stopped?

As soon as he spoke, a faint light emanated from the clock, and a figure appeared before them. It was a tall man in a black cloak, his face hidden in shadows, and his eyes glowed with a cold blue light. In his hands was a staff resembling a key, much like the one Eili held.

— Have you come to destroy order? — he asked, his voice sounding both human and mechanical.

— We have come to seek the truth, — Eili replied, keeping her key ready.

The man tilted his head, and his eyes sparkled brighter.

— The truth… This world exists thanks to deception. Destroy it, and you will lose everything.

Lumis tightened his grip on his sword.

— We have lost more than we could imagine. We want freedom!

The cloaked figure raised his staff, and the space around them began to shift. Darkness filled with images of the past: scenes from Eili’s and Lumis’s lives, their losses, fears, and dreams.

— Is this what you long for? — the man asked. — Are you prepared to leave this behind for chaos?

Eili stepped forward.

— Chaos is better than eternal illusion.

The figure silently watched her, then waved his staff. The hands of the clock began to move backward, and Lumis suddenly felt the world around them changing.

— What is he doing?! — he exclaimed.

— He’s forcing us to relive our fears, — Eili replied. — But we won’t give in!

The light from her key flared brightly, and time in the sphere momentarily froze. The figure retreated, but his eyes glowed even stronger.

— If you truly seek freedom, you must destroy the heart. But be ready: you may destroy yourselves as well, — the man warned.

Lumis and Eili exchanged glances.

— We have to do this, — Lumis said, looking at the clock.

Eili nodded.

— Together.

They both raised their keys and inserted them into the mechanism at the center of the clock face. The space around them filled with vibrations, the light becoming blinding, while the sound shattered the silence.

— You have chosen your path, — the man whispered before dissolving into the air.
The clock began to disintegrate. Gears ripped themselves from their places, pendulums stopped, and darkness consumed everything. Lumis and Eili felt the world around them crumbling, but within them emerged a strange sensation of freedom.

— What now? — Lumis asked as everything turned white.

— Now we will create a new world, — Eili replied, holding his hand tightly.

The light enveloped them, and they vanished, leaving behind the system that had held them captive. In this expanse of brilliance, they understood that their journey was not just about destruction; it was about renewal and rebirth, and they were finally free to shape the reality they desired. Together, they would forge a path forward, beyond the constraints of time and illusion.
