Chapter 7. The Choice Between the World and Eternity

The silence that enveloped the crossroads was suffocating. They all stood still, consumed by thoughts of what had happened and what might yet happen. The dark entity, though gone, had left irreversible changes behind. The space seemed distorted, as though a crack in reality had only grown wider, swallowing light and color, and eternity itself appeared to hold its breath.

Ayna was the first to break the silence. Her gaze was calm, but there was a deep anxiety in her eyes. She focused, step by step, drawing closer to the invisible center of this disturbed world.

“This isn’t the end,” she said, her voice firm but tinged with doubt. “The darkness hasn’t gone. It’s only waiting for its moment.”

Lumis looked at her, his mind working at full capacity, trying to understand if their victory had only been an illusion. His device was now almost inactive, its battered casing and shut-off parts no longer of any use. His fingers trembled with exhaustion, but he still stood strong.

“Perhaps we’ve temporarily stopped one part of this force,” Lumis spoke, weighing his words carefully. “But that doesn’t mean it won’t return.”

Antem walked up to them, his gaze intense, his hand still firmly gripping the sword, though weary. “What do we have to do?” he asked, addressing them all. “Eternity doesn’t give us time to think.”

Ayna turned to him, her face calm, but her eyes spoke more than words. “We have to choose. Between the world and eternity. We can save the world, but what will happen to eternity?”

Her words sounded like a great bitterness that crept into the very essence of what they were doing. Could they return the world to its normal state, or did eternity demand a sacrifice?

“Eternity isn’t just time,” she said, almost speaking her thoughts aloud. “It’s something that exists beyond comprehension. It gives us power, but also takes it when we fail to understand its true meaning.”

Antem nodded, understanding that the choice before them wasn’t one that could simply be grasped by logic. This was a question not just about how to preserve the world, but what price they were willing to pay to preserve the essence of existence itself.

“We can’t hold onto everything,” Lumis said, his words filled with sorrow, but also resolve. “And perhaps we’ll have to make a choice, even if we don’t want to.”

Tarik, who had remained silent, was listening intently. His eyes were closed, but every movement he made felt like part of what was happening. “I’ve known one thing for a long time,” he said. “A world where everything stays the same can never be true. Eternity requires change. And change is something we must embrace.”

Each of them fell silent, but Tarik’s words lingered in their hearts. The choice before them was not only external. It was a choice within each of them, a struggle with their own doubts and fears.

Ayna looked up at the sky, where the colors of the evening light were diffusing, as if under the pressure of invisible hands. She refocused, but no longer on the dark entity or the challenge ahead of them. Her gaze was aimed at something beyond their understanding, at a depth they could not yet grasp.

“We must find harmony,” she said softly, almost to herself.

Lumis lifted his head, his eyes meeting Ayna’s. They all knew: this was the moment when they needed to do more than just defeat the enemy. They had to find a way to preserve the balance between the worlds, between what was and what could be.

The choice awaited.
